Employment Websites

WARNING: Be careful when signing up for job search engines.
  • Many will sell your information to third parties. Before registering, scroll to the bottom of the site and look for "Privacy Policy" and carefully read it.
  • Many are shell websites whose only purpose is to sell advertising, not actually help you find legitimate work.
  • Many will post government jobs but redirect you to third parties who will take and sell your information. You may start receiving SPAM emails from 4th parties as well.
    • Example: If a job with the United States Post Office is posted at a third party website, first go to http://about.usps.com/careers/welcome.htm to verify that the job is open, then follow only the instructions for applying for that job only through usps.com.
  • Before signing up with an unfamiliar job search engine. Verify the website by using a WHOIS search for the owner of that website.
  • Before Googling "review of job search sites" understand that there are fake review sites put out by employment sites that favor the company and its subsidiaries. Instead go to sites like https://www.pissedconsumer.com/ or https://www.ripoffreport.com/ and search for the job search website you are considering. This will also reveal nefarious employers who post on the sites.
